Automations only work if the machine running them is awake when the webhook arrives or the schedule fires. An exe.dev VM is always on, has a public HTTPS address when you want one, and keeps its data on a persistent disk you can back up.

Do scheduled workflows run when my computer is off?

Yes. The VM runs around the clock, so schedules and incoming webhooks don't depend on any machine of yours.

Can webhooks be public while the editor stays private?

Yes. exe.dev makes one port public and keeps ports 3000-9999 behind exe.dev login, so the recipes expose only the webhook paths.
